This busy road has become increasingly hazardous. Since the closure of Mill Road, traffic has grown on Coldhams Lane and so has pavement parking. There are no yellow lines or parking prevention between Newmarket Road and Coldhams Lane bridge. It is urgently needed.

It cannot be risked as a problem for Railpen to solve as part of the retail development which is subject to planning permission being granted and therefore could be years away. The construction traffic will undoubtedly make it worse.

For pedestrians using wheelchairs, families with pushchairs, and those with support dogs, the situation is even more dire. Rogue and unregulated parking on pavements has turned what was already a difficult journey into a dangerous obstacle course.

Coldhams Lane and the flow of traffic from nearby roads including the ring road, has become severely compromised due to the constant presence of vehicles parked haphazardly. Traffic is pushed to the centre to avoid these parked vehicles, the road narrows, creating additional dangers for cyclists and other drivers, especially when turning into Silverwood Close, and New Street to access other areas of Petersfield. Lorries are frequently blocked and forced into the flow of oncoming traffic. 

What was once safe crossing is now fraught with danger due to reduced visibility at the zebra crossing and the pedestrian island, due to parked cars obscure views for both vehicles and pedestrians. This area has had one accident requiring police attendance and many near missed which is unacceptable for a residential area. Immediate action is needed. 

Not only is this a safety hazard, but it also contributes to poor air quality. Congestion caused by unauthorised parking leads to increased emissions, affecting everyone's health, particularly those with respiratory issues.

We need urgent parking restrictions implemented on Coldhams Lane to ensure the safety and well-being of all road users. The reduction of rogue parking will enable clearer pathways for pedestrians, safer road conditions for drivers and cyclists, and better air quality for everyone in the area.
