PETITION AGAINST ROAD PRICING AND RESTRICTIVE TRANSPORT MEASURES

We, the undersigned, call upon our local and national authorities to uphold the rights of residents, workers, and visitors to travel freely throughout our communities. We oppose policies that restrict access or impose additional financial burdens on road users.

Specifically, we petition to:

1. Stop all future road pricing in any form, including congestion charges, pay-to-drive zones, tolls, and similar schemes.

2. Prevent any further implementation of bus gates, road closures, bridge closures, or similar traffic restrictions that limit public access or redirect traffic unnecessarily.

3. Maintain open and accessible roadways for all modes of transport, ensuring that cars, motorcycles, bicycles, public transit, emergency services, and commercial vehicles can use essential routes without discrimination.

We believe that fair and open access to roads is vital for personal freedom, economic wellbeing, and community life. We urge decision-makers to listen to public concerns and protect our right to travel.

Signed,

Kieron Johnson

leader of Cambs Against Congestion Charge Group

This petition has been reviewed and the following response has been offered:

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority is the Transport Authority with responsibility for transport policy across Cambridgeshire under the umbrella of government transport policy and national guidance on local transport.

Notwithstanding that, the Council can advise that as a matter of principle it will not fetter its future decision making on any transport measures that might be brought forward consistent with the policies of government and the Combined Authority by rejecting options outright without due process or scrutiny, including the types of measure noted in the petition.
