consider the following :
"Underground , Overground ,Wombling Free " we all know the song from our childhood but the residents of the Loves Farm estate and future residents of Wintringham Park development in St Neots will all need to take great care in the future when crossing the busy and very dangerous Cambridge Road running straight through the heart of the growing community on the eastern side of St Neots .
We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to do something really special when it comes to positively influencing how St Neots , the biggest town in Cambridgeshire , expands for the benefit of all.
We can only do this with the coordinated support of local residents , the property developers - Urban and Civic and Gallagher - and most importantly Cambridgeshire County Council .
As lead Petitioner , I am asking for your support so that as the large "Wintringham Park" and "Loves Farm 2" developments are delivered (with the consequently huge increases in the numbers of local residents ) that a pedestrian friendly crossing solution is developed to help build a truly integrated and safe community as well as keeping traffic flowing efficiently in and out of our town .
Current proposals for a pedestrian crossings are insufficient to deal with the challenges of increased traffic flows along this busy road and do not put pedestrian safety at the forefront of this future development.
The residents need to have a "WOMBLE" solution - bridge or tunnel . Underground ,overground it really does not matter .What either option will do is to ensure that the number of direct pedestrian crossing across busy traffic lanes will be significantly reduced, thereby benefiting all of the community with prioritised road safety measures and avoiding the interrupted traffic flows of increased traffic.
It is a win , win for all. We are petitioning the County Council to reconsider its current position with the hope that they will advise that the bare minimum requirements of any new crossing over Cambridge Road is one that completely removes the need for the community to be at risk of being run over as they cross the road.
Please get in touch via social media if you have any questions
Thank you for taking the time to read my petition and thank you for your support.
Together we can all work for a better solution for our community.
Cllr Dr Nik Johnson .
