Plant Two Trees Locally for Every One Cut Down

Pledge to plant at least two trees locally for every one tree which is felled:

According to the Woodland Trust, Cambridgeshire is the least wooded county in the UK, with just 2% of the county being wooded.

As a result, the loss of every tree is felt keenly by residents, and whilst trees which are dangerous or diseased need to be felled on occasion, we the undersigned ask that in such a case the local authority pledge to plant two more trees in the same parish.

There are obvious benefits for wildlife, as well benefits for the local community, in terms of wellbeing, flood and air pollution mitigation.

Furthermore, planting more trees across the county will directly contribute to achieving the Council's vision for net-zero Cambridgeshire through their own "Climate Change, Energy and Environment" targets and commitments:

  • 100% of our strategies include policies that tackle Climate Change and provide natural capital enhancement by 2023
  • Deliver a net 20% increase in biodiversity (“net-gain”) across all our property, land projects and wildlife sites, by 2050
  • Deliver Government's net zero-carbon target for Cambridgeshire by 2050
