Update resident permit enforcement times in Castle, Cambridge

Update the enforcement time for the resident's permits around the Castle area of Cambridge to cover Sundays to match the pay and display bays in the area.

Making this change will:
- Enable local residents to make use of their permits for which they pay every day of the week
- Cost no extra money in parking enforcement (as the pay and display bays are already enforced on Sundays)
- Generate income for the council with shoppers making use of the newly developed Park Street multistorey
- Reduce some traffic into the city with some shoppers using the Madingley Road Park and Ride or making use of public transport

Thank you for your petition.

As with creating a new Resident Parking Scheme (RPS), there are specific steps involved in varying an existing RPS. These include:

 Informal Stages

  • Defining the issue or problem.
  • A survey led by the local County Councillor(s) to establish the level of support for any proposed change. Only changes where the survey shows that the majority of households within the defined scheme area support the proposed restriction will progress.

Formal Stages

  • Approval in principle of the proposed scheme changes by the Service Director of Transport and Connectivity.
  • Defining and refining the scheme design changes and plan for the proposed area.
  • Drafting and publishing the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). All objections received during this consultation period will be considered by the appropriate officer or committee.

Change Implementation

  • Replacement of all signs.

The costs associated with introducing any agreed variations will be recovered through a one-off charge at the point of renewal or initial application, unless additional third-party funding can be secured.

Full details of the Resident Parking Scheme Policy can be viewed on the Council’s website.

Next Steps:

A good starting point would be to contact the local Councillor, as they are best placed to establish the level of support in the surrounding area for any proposed change. If such a change is supported, officers, in consultation with the local Councillor, will explore the options available and assess the practicality and feasibility of the proposal.
